A man has been jailed for three months in New Zealand for spitting on police. The country’s police said in a statement.
The man was convicted in North Plymouth District Court in North Island on Thursday for defaming police.
However, the police have not confirmed whether the incident was related to coronavirus.
In the current situation, spitting increases the risk for police officers and the community and such behavior will be tolerated, the statement said.
Incidentally, in New Zealand, a person can be jailed for up to 14 years if he or she is infected with sputum.
