Ren Zhengfei

Ren Zhengfei, the founder of the Chinese technology company Huawei, is known as the spiritual leader of the company. But he does not think so at all. He likes to think of himself as an ordinary person and a puppet leader. In a recent interview with the South Morning China Post, Ren expressed his general thoughts.

After working as a former engineer in the army, Ren founded Huawei in 1986 with only five thousand US dollars in his pocket. Huawei claims to have operations in 180 countries around the world and a staff of 190,000. In 2016, their revenue was 100 billion US dollars. Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei, 65, has decided to retire. But he backed away from the decision to rescue Huawei under US pressure.

Zhengfei said in the interview that his hope is that one day people will forget him as normal. “I am an old man,” he said. What could be the reason for remembering me? My biggest wish is to have coffee in the cafe without anyone noticing. ‘

Ren has always kept himself hidden from publicity. Despite being the head of the world’s top telecom equipment maker, the desire to have coffee in a simple cafe may seem to be on the rise. But for so long he has not brought himself forward in that way. Ren began to come forward after coming under pressure from the United States last year. Ren has been at the forefront of various issues since Huawei’s chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, was arrested in Canada.

Ren Zhengfei had said earlier that he was in the process of retiring. But growing pressure from the United States is motivating him to continue working. He wants to take up the challenge.

In a new interview, Ren Zhengfei said, ‘Huawei has three rotating chairmen. He is the puppet leader. Without it the temple would look empty. Whether I stay at Huawei or not, it has no real impact. His contributions to Huawei are mainly related to scientific research and production continuity. Basically to help the company become stronger in difficult times. ‘

It is our duty. Whenever something urgent happens, we come forward to solve problems, not as a company, but as a fire department. Many times I get paid for this, I never get it. It doesn’t matter.

Ren said he will retire one day. Everyone has to leave one day. No one will live forever. Before he could not enjoy the beauty of Shenzhen. Many knew him. I used to take pictures and post them. Now his wish is that no one should notice him when he is old. He wants to walk around with a stick after the hat on his head. He wants to enjoy the whole beauty of the country with his own eyes.
